aboutWhen I was little, my grandmother always encouraged me to learn to type - to her, it was job security. As long as I had that skill, I'd always be able to find work. Well, I never learned to type, and I don't think Granny would believe that I now make my living taking typewriters apart and making jewelry with them. I make jewelry and gifts for writers, travellers, and other interesting people. I absolutely love my work, and I am grateful that this is what I get to do for a living. Making beautiful, useful, and meaningful things out of what is otherwise considered trash is awesome. I know that it is becoming increasingly harder to find thoughtful gifts when shopping in a cookie-cutter, big box environment. My number one priority is creating well made and clever gifts to give to yourself, or someone else you love. Thanks for visiting! The Story Behind The Name I chose “The Weekend Store” as the name for my business for a few reasons. When I lived in Burlington, Vermont many years ago, I had a friend who owned a store across Lake Champlain called The Store In Essex. When I first heard the name I thought it would be a simple little small town store, but when I actually visited it, I found the most exquisite, well edited collection of art & gifts in a beautifully decorated storefront. I loved the contrast between the store’s name and its actual appearance. When I moved back to the Mission District in San Francisco after living in Vermont, I used to walk by this little antiques store on Valencia near 17th that was only open on the weekends. I’d peer through the windows, oohing and aahing at all the awesome stuff I saw inside, always so psyched for the weekend to come so I’d be able to go in and check out what they had. I combined both elements of these two businesses that I admired, and came up with The Weekend Store. |
